Dear Friends:

My name is Bill Roth and I am a leader with "Justice for Immigrants (JFI)" in the Diocese of San José. We are the official diocesan representatives of the Catholic Campaign for Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CCIR), and we work towards the just and humane treatment of our immigrant brothers and sisters.

We seek to accomplish our work through advocacy, community organizing and prayer vigils. Our recent events include the Postcard Campaign and Prayer Vigil for Immigration Reform this past February, the March for America in Washington, DC, and a recent Research Action in Arizona. Among our delegation to Arizona were thirty-one civic, business, social service, labor, faith and law leaders from Santa Clara County. While in Arizona, we witnessed the human costs of such laws as SB1070 and sought to find out if such a law as SB 1070 could pass here in California. Our findings will be published this fall.

It is critical to our work that we develop strong leaders and partners. We want our members to be strong, knowledgeable and most of all, leaders. We want our work to be successful.

In partnership with our work toward immigration reform and to continue our momentum, we invite you to join us for our Leadership Development Day on Saturday, July 24, 2010. We are honored to have Gabriel Thompson, a community organizer, freelance journalist and author of the acclaimed book, "Working in the Shadows", as our Keynote Speaker. We will have workshops geared toward understanding immigration reform issues and the current political climate, as well as workshops geared toward developing and refining organizing skills. There will also be many opportunities for networking as there will be representatives from many organizations present.

The cost of the retreat is $15.00 per individual, or $30.00 per church or organization. A detailed program will be sent once you are registered. Lunch will be provided, so please let us know of any dietary concerns or restrictions. We look forward to your joining us at the JFI Leadership Retreat. If you have any questions regarding this event, please feel free to contact me at the number below, or via email.

Sincerely,
